Student Profiles

What type of students take Band and Guard classes?

We have every type of student imaginable in band! Athletes, Cheer students, JROTC students, Academy students….. the list goes on! While it’s definitely more challenging balancing more than one time-consuming elective, or taking band or guard alongside academically rigorous classes, it is certainly not impossible. Let us introduce you to a few…..

Isabella W - Class of '23

Flute
After a busy band schedule in semester 1, in semester 2 of freshman year Isabella trained after school with Athletics and joined the CP junior varsity pole vault team. In semester 2 of sophomore year, she elected to provide service hours to our band. Isabella is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and Spanish Honor Society, and takes several Honors/Dual Credit/AP classes. She is also an active NCL Texas Laurels member. She plans to go to college and study for a career in Architecture.

We are proud to showcase our band kids, not only for their academic achievements during HS but also what they’ve done after graduation. Academically we constantly have kids in band getting extraordinary grades and recognition during HS. Many of the band/guard kids are enrolled in the Academy of Science and Technology. It is not uncommon that band/guard kids are accepted in top colleges like Rice, Cornell, UT Honors, Duke, etc. In 2020, our lead Drum Major was also the valedictorian of her class. In addition, many of our band/guard students continue to pursue their passion for music in College.
